About

Welcome to my world!  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.  It’s only taken me around 62 years to be able to say “enjoy” in the same breath as “my world”; I trust you can make the adjustment faster than I did.

My cats – Herr Prof. Grand Master of Spacious Wisdom and Gnomic Being-ness Bougarabou O. Hooligan a/k/a “Bugs,” and Barney, a/k/a various ridiculous nicknames – unfortunately for all of us, they rely on me to speak for them.  So this is hearsay and it is inadmissible in court; the boys will answer subpoenas there.

About why I think you should be reading this blog:  In the absence of an original piece of writing as of yet, let the following excerpt from Wikipedia stand until I can put my own thoughts together:

Interactions with cats may improve health and reduce physical responses to stress: for example the presence of cats may moderate increased blood pressure.  Cat ownership may also improve psychological health by providing emotional support and dispelling feelings of depression, anxiety and loneliness.  [I am Exhibit A.  Otherwise, though, I must object to that bit about cats having “owners.”  On a good day, they have “guardians.”  The rest of the time they have “human slaves.”]

Cats may change the overall psychological state of their owner as their company’s effect appears to be comparable to the one of a human partner.  [Amen.  Comparable or superior to.]  Cats do not however promote optimistic moods but only alleviate the negative ones.  [I vigorously dispute this.]

Several studies have shown that cats develop affection towards their owners. However, [this] is closely related to the time and effort the cat owner is able to invest in it, in terms of bonding, playing and buying accessories for their pet.  [I anticipate that you’ll be reading a lot here about this affection my cats allegedly feel toward me (but see caution about hearsay).  If you’re tempted to emulate me, though, a word to the wise.  I leave the boys only if strictly necessary, and it’s only necessary when we run out of food and cat gew-gaws.  Plus I can echo-locate by in-built GPS every store that sells cat gew-gaws within a thirty-mile radius.  Worse, the attorney who administers my trust fund (now I know you’ll believe anything I write here) has stopped disbursements to me for this purpose.  I have protested by motion to Probate Court but I am not optimistic.  The attorney thinks he has my best interests at heart and I’m pretty sure the judge sees things the attorney’s way.  Everybody is against me.  Except my cats.  And you, I’m hoping.]

So.  Pleased to meet you.  Welcome.

Just read about Bugs in PetTalk…looking very handsome. I love the way you share information about Bugs, very sweet.

Thank you for telling me about that site, will try to get my babies featured there too 😉

Oh thank you, dear Novroz. It’s so easy to be sweet — coz I love him so much. As you do your little ones. Happiness! I look forward to seeing them on the site.

Those of you who might not know what I believe we’re talking about, it’s the CAT (or PET) OF THE DAY, a site of delight: http://catoftheday.com/archive/2011/April/18.html

“Everybody is against me. Except my cat.” Great quote!

    • nadbugs says:

Smiling. I’m glad you like the quote — but — sometimes my cat is against me too. Still. There’s a solution for that. I just take refuge in — my mind. There’s no end to the stories with which I can amuse myself. If they were only true. Still. Maybe it’s better this way.

    • nadbugs says:

Yah. So enjoyable. And watch out, Dianda, for a big increase in traffic, on getting this award (for which congratulations) — I’m not sure why or how this happens, exactly, but it sure is fun.

Ah, lovely writing, Ms. Bean. Your words are richly combined and require a slowing of spirit to absorb, for which I thank you. Bugs is beautiful and a joy to watch in action.

    Glad you’ve found your “enjoy.” It’s a tough world out there… >:-D

(I found you over at Confessions of a Cat Woman.)

  8. lahgitana says:

See author commentary re: nonviolence! >:-D No sacrifices on my account!

Does it count as being interred with my cat if my survivors intermingle my ashes with my cat’s?

  9. I am home alone all day, except for the two shedding bags of fur that shadow me all day long….. myself and the two furbags will enjoy following your blog 🙂

  10. Aloha Bugs & Bean! I think you both are wonderful, so I nominated you for the Wonderful Award. You can see the details at http://wp.me/p1J8Wa-y8. I know you have tons of free time these days, so I can’t wait to see your acceptance. (Just joking! Maybe you could hang onto it and ponder the wonderfulness for a while…)

I told my mom that having a cat would be good for her health and make her live longer.. but then she said that the life extension she gets from the cat is all spent scooping kitty litter. wise words indeed!

Hello there! Great to see you over here — and at yours, too. Cute little icon! (^V^) Not as good as yours — can’t figure out how to do the nose-triangle!

Hi, I just found your blog while looking at wordpress.com and got hooked. 🙂 I have a cat myself (he likes being by himself, other cats – ummm, no.) and sheesh, aren’t they just the cutest little monsters? Thanks for making me laugh and cry (SO sorry about your Fang – I lost one of my cats a few years ago, and thinking of that still tears me up.) They can be a pain – but I wouldn’t miss it for a million dollars.

    • nadbugs says:

I am so pleased to see you here — welcome!! Boy — we really do hurt at loss of our little “cute monsters” — a reader calls it a cat-shaped hole in the heart that’s never filled. And still we love the whole experience. Life. Not for sissies. I look forward to hearing more from you, fellow cat-lover.

Hi nadbugs and bugs and fang, just started following your Blog having visited “ThreeCatYard” recently. I am a crazy cat-lover, well maybe just crazy. I respect an am interested in all animals. Though I seem to have a strong connection with the “Cat”. I even had a memorable dream once when cat-people took over the human world as they felt it was high time that we human beings learned how to relate properly to others / the “other” (including environment, non humans etc.).

I knew the cat people were coming & tried to hide under a bed but a paw hauled me out. I had to queue up somewhere & was given a leaflet on major points on how to get on with others (which I can’t remember what they were at all), then I was being taken somewhere – but I awoke. Anyhow I thought the Feline race was quite nice after all and kind and intelligent as well – maybe some of us Cat-lovers are related to them! 🙂

Hugzz to your beautiful kitties, Bugs and Fang. I love them.

  18. Star Wise says:

Hi Anita, of course I love Barney too, sorry just found out about Fang. As I posted on ThreeCatYard, a cat once visited me in “spirit” form (although some might not like or agree with this, even me once upon a time before this happened). It was my sister’s cat, a Chinchilla, whom passed away when she was 13 and when I was ready to tune into the After-world one evening when I was at my sister’s and going to sleep I felt the cat curled up beside me. She came to say she was fine so I told my sister. I believe that the spirit is eternal. Best wishes to you and your cat family. Celine 🙂

  19. Mags Corner says:

Nice of you to stop by and it is great to meet another Arkansan. We are in a rural area near Benton and Bryant. I will let Chancy know you say he is cute…the cats will be jealous. lol Stay warm in the cold and snow up there. We still have ice here and hoping to see some thawing soon.

This looks like a fun blog. I am currently a dog person, but have had many cats over the years and think they are lovely too.
