Barney Steps Up

Bugsy’s eye appears to have healed.  As of today.  All it took was a trip to the vet, and a laying-on of hands.  And a paying of green papers, lots of them.  Sheesh.  Well, whatever.  As long as Bugsy’s all right now.

There’s been readership interest in the chokehold series.  I say series because Barney exhibited some fine chops in yesterday’s gif, but actually he’s been refining his technique in that department for some time.

Yesterday’s moves.

September 9th version.

So here are my thoughts on the current state of play.  Barney is a sociable cat.  He likes close contact.  It seems he’s often after Bugs or me for hugs and play.  I love that, but Bugs not so much.  The difficulties seem to arise in current socially significant areas like Bookshelf Bed.

The same thing used to happen with Fangie.

But Fangie learned pretty quickly that he could take over Top Shelf Bed as his own, and leave Bookshelf Bed to Bugsy.

I am so proud to say that tonight, Barney has stepped up into Fangie’s shoes.

See how put-out Bugsy looks in this next one.

I ask you.  Turn your back for one minute and look what happens.

Tonight, though, for the first time Barnes spent some time sleeping a spell in Fangie’s old Top Shelf Bed.  He came down for a while, but at the very moment I write this, he’s just hurtled back up there.  He’s grooming now.

Its good when things work out on their own with time. Save wrasslin for playtime!

  2. Aw, he found the high ground! Maybe that’ll leave Bugsy his favorite bed. For a while anyway.

  3. Glad Bugy’s eye is better. Is Barney’s eye better too?
See, Barney’s still adapting and making progress! My second cat was adopted at an older age and I’d say it took him about 1 year to really be completely adapted. So it’s all good.
Love all the pictures, including the one of Fangie…

Wow, Ivy, one year! That’s actually reassuring for me to hear, because hey! we’ve only been together just over a month! What’s my hurry! Oh yes, that picture of Fangie . . . .

    (nice tag! hahahahahaha!)

  5. Sweet. I think your boys are just being boyz…and it’s great! The tussling looks like all fun.

  6. CATachresis says:

It’s entirely possible that Barney is going to end up being Top Cat and Bugs is going to be left on the (lower) shelf!!

  7. That’s what we wanted to see, Bugs! Go for the throat, I tell you!
