Did you hear the one about Holly the house-cat? Her humans took her to Daytona. (Really? And – how is that supposed to be a fun thing for a cat? Never mind.)
Holly took exception to the whole thing and took off. “I will make my own way back home,” she must have said, “thank you very much.”
Two months later she showed back up in Palm Beach – 200 miles away – having walked, probably.
Read all about it here.
There’s just no telling how this is possible. Nobody really knows, not even Jackson Galaxy.
So on the home front, I’ve been getting the feeling lately that Bugsy is going through changes.
But of course there’s just no telling. We are talking about a cat, after all.
Still – it used to be that Barney would just pummel Bugs into the ground, and I’d need to commence rescue operations.
Now it seems he’s standing up to Barney more.
Wouldn’t you? Stand up to that big lug?
I am Bugsy. Hear me holler!
Barney is unperturbed.
Wouldn’t you be? If you were this big?
This gorgeous?
Oh, wow, what an awesome story, thanks for sharing it with us… Cats are amazing and enigmatic creatures indeed! I’ve missed you and I’m happy to see new photos of your boys. Looking good!
Oh yay, Ivy. I’m glad to be back too, and to be seeing you here. Most reassuring!
I don’t see myself walking 200 miles…
I remember a similar story. A couple lost their cat on vacation in Southern France. The kitty showed up back in Belgium months later…
Really, Bowie? Well — but you know how devastated we all would be if you didn’t find your back to Herman, so we can keep in touch . . . . Can we change your mind? Enigmatic creature that you are? Would it help if we begged?
I read the story in the NY Times today. Barney has grown serene in his confidence. Lovely to see him so at home.
He is something else, Layla. I wish I could capture his goofy zaniness . . . .
Austin, being a resourceful chap, would probably say sucks to travelling 200 miles and instead make friends with a new family right nearby. – Some folks who don’t travel to dumb places!!!
So great to see some more photos of your lovely boys. Love the last photo, so much personality coming through there!
Good for Bugsy, standing up for himself more. They’ll have things all sorted out before too long. Well, too long in their estimate, to humans it’s never soon enough is it! Hugs for the human, snuggles for the kitties!
No self-respecting cat would actually WALK 200 miles. We would manipulate a human into doing the walking for us!
Good job standing up to Barney, Bugs! Just because he’s stunningly handsome doesn’t mean he can control things on the home front. Mostly.
I am with you. Who in the world would take a kitty to Daytona? Love your photos!
Warms the cockles of my heart!
It just shows how special cats really are. 200 miles? I bow down to that kitty!
Like people, they change as they learn and grow. Glad to hear there is an increase in the peace of your home, and in the confidence. We recently received the same. Are you giving them more play-time? Jasio has stopped trying to murder the dog randomly, I think having a tiny kitten is helping him. I have yet to tell him tiny kitten will stay tiny (though not a kitten)
I always say never argue with crazy people or determined Cats.
I love the picture in front of the window. They look like good pals!
Purrs
Whoa! I live just south of Palm Beach and I never heard this… I can’t wait to read!!! Whatta kitty, soooo amazing!
Did you notice one of the reacting persons shows a picture of a cat that really resembles Bugs?
I am not really surprised, I never experienced such a thing with a cat, but we did with a dog! My brother was on vacation and asked us to keep their dog, they lived about 20 miles from our home, every evening I could go and fetch the dog in THEIR town. One day, I saw the dog running on the speedway, I was not in my car but in my colleague’s car, she stopped and I put the dog on my lap, he was sooooooo dirty, but as these people do not have pets because of the mess they make, I did not want the dog to spread filth around him.
Barney and Bugsy are so handsome. We’ve just met but all 7 of my female felines are smitten. They said they would walk 200 miles to meet them. But my one male says that he’ll take on either of them to protect his harem. Hope you’ll stop by http://www.thecatonmyhead.com and meet them: Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Josette.
Oh, that last photo of Barney just makes me MELT!! Well, yeah…he’s the handsomest mancat ever! LOL. And… his handsome mug is featured on the RPO blog today! http://www.canidaepetfood.blogspot.com/2013/01/does-your-pet-have-doppelganger.html
Now, that’s a cat story. And we don’t doubt it one bit! That’s cats for ya! Purrs…
Barney we agree. You is purrty handsome! And of course there’s no telling. We kittehs do NOT do ANYthing and tell.
A lovely story…. Anyone who says that cats have no affection to their “parents” just don’t know what they are talking about….. And i have to say, your cats are adorable!!!!!!!!!!!!
Barney, you are like my Nelson!
