Friends, Barney is in surgery as I write this. If you would please keep him in mind for the next few hours, I would be so grateful.
He’s swallowed something — from the films, it looks like one of those clips that come with the Da Bird cat-toy. Around 24 hours ago he started puking. I kept hoping it would get better. It didn’t. I was up all night with him and when he puked again at 4:30 this morning, I bundled him to the emergency vet.
By now he may be under. He was dehydrated and so the vet wanted him to stay on electrolyte drip until his blood —
Oh jeez I don’t believe it. Now Bugs is throwing up his breakfast.
Enough. I better go clean up.
Please — the next few hours are going to be critical for Barney. Please pray for him, or do whatever you do that’s prayer-like.

Update three hours later: Vet just called. Barney tolerated the surgery well and complications appear unlikely. More details to follow. But for now: YAYAYAY. Also, Bugsy ate some baby-food. New Year is starting to look a lot better. After a somewhat questionable start.

Cats are masters of timing, aren’t they? Best wishes for you and your furkids and try not to worry too much (next to impossible, I know!) We went through this a few years ago an it was no fun at all. May Master Bugs have an uncomplicated surgery and a speedy recovery.
I mean Barney, I need coffee. It is too early in the morning. Sorry Anita. Hugs. Bugs is hopefully just having sympathy vomiting.

Oh gosh, I am so glad to hear he came through surgery and is recovering. You know I love him because he’s my kitty’s doppelgänger and also because I know how special he is to you. I will keep praying for both Barney and Bugs, and you.

My goodness, Barney! And Bugs…sympathy vomiting…really? Glad to hear Barney’s surgery went well, and that Bugs is eating baby food! Did the vet say what they found with surgery? I live in fear of one of my dogs ingesting something which will give them problems. I feel your worry and am glad it’s resolved happily so far! Happy New Year!

How absolutely terrifying for you, considering what you’ve been through. So relieved that he came through the surgery ok and that his brother is eating – wow! What a way to start the new year – everything else will be wonderful in 2014, for sure!
